(MORRIS, WILLIAM) "William Morris Centenary 1834-1896." A reproduction
of Carl S. Junge's portrait drawing of Morris. Boston: Thomas G. Boss
Fine Books, 1996. Appx. 24 inches tall by 18 inches wide, printed at the
workshop of Charles River Lithography in black ink on laid paper. Available
in two editions:
A. Limited edition signed by the publisher, Thomas G. Boss. $50.00 (+
shipping)
B. Regular issue, unsigned. This, the second in our series of classic
Art Deco, Art Nouveau, and Arts & Crafts graphic images, is an enlarged
reproduction of a portrait of William Morris designed by Carl S. Junge
that originally appeared as an illustration in "The Inland Printer"
magazine at the turn of the century. This was one of a series of literary
portraits by Junge done for the magazine. It features Morris sitting in
a chair of his own design in the foreground, with a shade and wallpaper
of Morris's design as a backdrop. The whole image is surrounded by a floral
border, also of Morris-esque design, with his name inscribed at the bottom.
This is the only reproduction of Junge's very handsome image, produced
finally in a size that does justice to its subject. $35.00 (+ shipping)
